XML-encoded Remote Procedure Calls
Yet another example on how to use XML for very strange purposes. But probably still better than XMPP. What's really strange about XML-RPC is that it is used on top of HTTP as if that was an appropriate protocol for RPC. Funny, XML-RPC is so little RPC that it isn't even mentioned on the RPC wikipedia page.

Well?
psyced deals with both in the field of Newscasting (in a rudimentary fashion) and might one day also look into Circuits of that kind so it can produce these formats out of regular PSYC messages.
